Canadian Chemistry Competition (CCC) Entry Rules
1) Participants
High school students of all grades;
2) Examination Format
In-person written examination:
Conducted at standardized test centers nationwide (divided into four major regions: East China, Central and Western China, South China, and North China). Candidates must complete the paper-based exam independently.
Online computer-based examination:
Some candidates will answer remotely via designated platforms (such as the "Asidan International Science Assessment" mini-program or Tencent Meeting). Candidates must test their equipment and close any irrelevant software beforehand.
3) Exam Time
The exam lasts 60 minutes and consists of 25 multiple-choice questions.
4) Exam Language
The exam language is English.
5) Competition Time
Held annually in April.
6) Question Types and Scoring Rules
Question Types: 25 multiple-choice questions, each with 4-5 options, total score 100 points (4 points per question), no penalty for incorrect answers.
Time Allocation: An average of 2.4 minutes per question. It is recommended to prioritize basic questions (40%), then tackle advanced questions (40%) and challenging questions (20%).
7) Scoring Criteria:
Starting score is 0 points. Correct answers receive points, incorrect answers do not incur penalties. Reasonable guessing is encouraged.
Some questions require multiple calculations; pay attention to unit conversions and potential pitfalls related to omitted conditions.
8 ) Exam Tools and Materials
Permitted:
Calculators without programming functions (some test centers require prior notification of model)
Printed periodic table, scratch paper
Prohibited:
Mobile phones, smartwatches, formula manuals, and other electronic or reference materials
9) Invigilation Rules and Precautions
Entry Requirements:
Entry is prohibited 15 minutes after the start of the exam. Students may leave 15 minutes early.
Online candidates must keep their webcam on throughout the exam. A black screen for more than 5 minutes will result in disqualification.
Identity Verification: Candidates must bring their ID card or student ID. Online candidates must show their identification in front of the camera.
10) Awards and Advancement Mechanism
Award Categories:
Global Merit Award Award: Top 10% of Canadian contestants and Chinese students achieving the same score will receive an award.
China Regional Awards: Gold (Top 10%), Silver (Top 25%), Bronze (Top 35%), Regional Excellence Award (Top 20% in each region)
Advancement Path: Gold/Silver Award winners will be invited to participate in the Canadian Chemistry Olympiad (CCO) and compete for qualification in the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO).
11) Score Inquiry
Score Inquiry: Results can be checked 4-6 weeks after the exam through the "Asidan International Science Assessment" mini-program or official website.
12) Exam Scope
Safety issues; Organic chemistry; Acids and bases; From structure to properties; Electrochemistry; Solutions and stoichiometry; Prerequisites for gas laws and basic concepts; Thermochemistry, reaction kinetics; Chemical equilibrium (8 modules).
